The Texas Department of Transportation is looking to upgrade U.S. 290 and two other highways in the Hill Country that have seen traffic surge as Austin’s suburban growth has spilled south into Hays County.
TxDOT is applying for grants from the Capital Area Metropolitan Planning Organization, or CAMPO — an agency that plays a key role in determining which transportation projects in the Austin region get federal funding — for use in designing expansions of U.S. 290, RM 1826 and RM 12, said Antonio Lujan, a spokesperson for TxDOT.
