Homeless men claim they were used to cash forged checks

Waco, Tx (FOX 44) – Two men who say they are homeless tell the same story of being taken to banks to cash checks determined to be forged by two men who brought them from Austin.

The two cases involved two different banks in two different cities.

One man, identified as 63 year old Scott Travis Tunner, was arrested at First National Bank of Central Texas on China Spring Road on Thursday. Police had been called there on a reported forgery in progress and were told that a man described as wearing a neon shirt and jeans was trying to cash the check. An arrest affidavit stated the bank manager told police the check was written on an account that had a previous forgery case. The affidavit stated that Tunner decided to give officers a statement, saying two men he did not know had picked him up at a homeless shelter in Austin and brought him to the bank in Waco to cash the check. He said the men were in a parking lot next door while he went in to cash the check. Police did not locate the men he said were waiting…
