Man gets 75 years for 2020 standoff in Cedar Park that wounded three officers

WILLIAMSON COUNTY, Texas — A man was sentenced to 75 years in prison for a 2020 standoff in Cedar Park that left three police officers wounded, the Williamson County District Attorney’s Office said.

Judge Rick Kennon sentenced Joseph Desean Taylor, 32, following a December trial in which Taylor was found guilty on five counts, including three counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon on a public servant and two counts of aggravated kidnapping. All sentences will run concurrently.

The convictions stem from an Aug. 16, 2020, incident in which Cedar Park officers responded to a home on Natalie Cove after Taylor’s mother reported he had broken in and was armed. As three officers moved toward upstairs bedrooms, Taylor opened fire through a closed door, wounding all three.
