LCRA ‘exploring’ new reservoir addition in lower basin, just west of Houston metro

AUSTIN (KXAN) — The Lower Colorado River Authority, or LCRA, is exploring another potential reservoir site just months after its newest one came online.

LCRA General Manager Phil Wilson announced Wednesday that the authority “is quickly moving forward with a feasibility study to determine if property LCRA owns northwest of Eagle Lake would be suitable for a large new water supply reservoir.”

The potential reservoir, which would be near Eagle Lake in Colorado County, just west of the Houston metro area, could potentially hold between 48,000 and 80,000 acre-feet of water, according to LCRA. An acre-foot is 325,851 gallons.

That’s about two or three times the capacity of Lake Austin, LCRA said in a press release…
