One person was left clinging to life after a shooting near Del Valle High School early Monday, according to Austin police. Officers found the wounded individual inside a vehicle on the school campus and rushed them to a hospital, where they were listed in critical condition. Investigators say they are searching for a suspect, and early signs point to the shooting having happened off campus before the victim ended up at the school.
As reported by KVUE, Austin police received a call about a possible shooting around 12:30 a.m. Monday, and arrived to find an injured person inside a vehicle at Del Valle High School. The victim was transported to a hospital in critical condition while officers canvassed the surrounding area. APD told KVUE that investigators believe the shooting took place at a different location and not on school property.
Area Has Seen Recent Violence
The southeast Austin community around Del Valle has been dealing with a string of violent incidents in recent weeks. The Travis County Sheriff’s Office investigated a Jan. 7 shooting in the Del Valle area that left one man dead and another critically injured, as reported by FOX 7 Austin.
