Half Price Books leaving South Lamar store after more than 30 years

One of South Lamar Boulevard’s most identifiable businesses over the last few decades is packing up its books. But fear not, book (and DVD and vinyl and poster) lovers, Half Price Books is not going far.

The store is closing its location at 2929 S. Lamar Blvd. on March 15 after what one longtime employee speculated was more than 30 years in operation. The inventory will be boxed up and shipped over to a new property purchased by the store at 2607 S. First St.

The arrival of Half Price on South First will mark another chapter of change for the street. De Nada Cantina recently replaced the former El Mercado, the owners of Lenoir have opened Spanish-inspired bar Boni’s, and Little Mexico recently closed after more than 30 years on South First…
