Carjacking suspect crashes after taking delivery driver’s vehicle in downtown Austin

AUSTIN (KXAN) — A delivery driver is recovering after being carjacked during a stop at an apartment on West Seventh Street, according to the Austin Police Department.

APD said the victim left his car open and running while they made a delivery at an apartment complex in the 600 block of West Seventh Street on Wednesday, just before 6:30 p.m.

According to police, when the driver got back to his car, there was a woman inside, and she was trying to drive away. The driver tried to stop her, but the suspect hit him with a glass bottle and fled, police said.

Police were called, and when officers arrived, the suspect took off, headed south on Rio Grande Street. She ran a red light at West 6th Street, hit another vehicle and kept going, APD said…
