AUSTIN, Texas (KXAN) — A video circulating on social media shows a Waymo autonomous vehicle in Austin, Texas, stopped in between train tracks and a railroad stop arm as a CapMetro train passes by.
Tristyn Donovan sent the video to Nexstar’s KXAN, which was recorded on Saturday. The video appears to show the Waymo vehicle stopped after the stop arm, just avoiding the train tracks in front of it.

Waymo explained that the light was changing from green to red. As soon as the light became red, the vehicle braked to stop before the crossing without being rear-ended by a car following closely behind.
The company said the vehicle stopped more than 2.5 meters before the train tracks, after the stop arm, and ultimately it was determined the vehicle was a safe distance away from the tracks.
