Man identified by downtown cameras, arrested for January hit and run

AUSTIN (KXAN) – The Austin Police Department was able to identify and arrest a January hit-and-run suspect through the city’s HALO camera system, according to an affidavit obtained by KXAN.

APD said the hit-and-run occurred on January 31, just before 3:00 a.m. at the intersection of the North Interstate Highway 35 southbound service road and East 6th Street. It resulted in the death of Aaron William Johnson.

According to the affidavit, downtown surveillance cameras were able to show when the crash occurred between the vehicle and the pedestrian.
