AUSTIN (KXAN) – Journalism students, true crime fans and investigative enthusiasts packed Hogg Memorial Auditorium at the University of Texas at Austin on Wednesday for a special, in-person event called “KXAN Investigates LIVE” — a behind-the-scenes approach to storytelling from KXAN’s investigative team.
“I’m excited to bring these stories to a live audience in a new way — answering their questions and exploring parts of the investigations most people never see — even when we face threats,” said KXAN Director of Investigations & Innovation Josh Hinkle.
With nearly 500 registered, the unique masterclass was a partnership between KXAN — Austin’s NBC and Nexstar affiliate — and UT’s Moody College of Communication. Organizers spent months planning how to best showcase some of the station’s recent National Edward R. Murrow Award-winning projects and field student questions about the process to produce them.
KXAN Vice President and General Manager Eric Lassberg said one goal was to give students “a transparent look” and how those stories were “conceived, resourced and executed and what it takes to build and sustain trust with the communities we serve.”…
