Austin is lining up with cities across the country this Saturday as the “No Kings” movement launches a nationwide day of nonviolent action. Here at home, the centerpiece is a lakeside rally at Auditorium Shores from 1 to 4 p.m., part of a coordinated push by national organizers focused on immigration enforcement, foreign policy, and economic policy under the current administration.
Locally, the plan starts earlier. Organizers say marchers will gather at Austin City Hall at noon, then head to Auditorium Shores for a permitted rally featuring speakers, music, and volunteer-led de-escalation teams. According to Hands Off Central Texas, the event will also include legal observers, street medics, and accessibility services for attendees.
Organizers plan thousands of marches nationwide
National coordinators say more than 3,000 events are on the books across the country for March 28, according to information posted on the movement’s website. The site lists trainings and hosts toolkits for local organizers, and The Associated Press reported that leaders are predicting this could be the largest No Kings mobilization yet.
Local history and security posture
Austin is not new to No Kings actions. Organizers and local reporting estimated thousands in the streets during major rallies here in June and October 2025. Coverage of the October turnout highlighted the scale of the crowd, while The Texas Tribune reported that Gov. Greg Abbott deployed Texas National Guard troops ahead of the June demonstrations. Organizers say it is unclear whether similar deployments will be announced for this weekend.
