Pedestrian dies after being hit by pickup truck on US 183, APD says

AUSTIN (KXAN) — A pedestrian died early Friday morning after being hit by a pickup truck on N. U.S. Highway 183 in northwest Austin, according to Austin Police.

It happened just before 4 a.m. on southbound N. U.S. Highway 183, near the 13300 block. Investigators did not release the pedestrian’s identity.

According to police, a pickup truck hit a pedestrian crossing on the highway. The pedestrian died at the scene.

The driver remained at the scene until first responders arrived. APD said the driver was tested for impairment and might face charges.

The pedestrian’s death is Austin’s 18th motor vehicle crash fatality of 2026. At this same time in 2025, there had been 20 fatal crashes resulting in 24 deaths.
