Travis County deputy arrested on official oppression charge

AUSTIN (KXAN) – A Travis County Sheriff’s Office deputy has been placed on administrative leave after being arrested in February by Cedar Park Police for official oppression, a Class A misdemeanor.

Deputy Dennis Mallinger is accused of sexually harassing a woman in a Cedar Park convenience store parking lot “by making verbal comments and physical contact of a sexual nature” that made the woman “feel she had to submit to these requests based upon his position of authority,” according to an arrest affidavit signed Feb. 20.

Mallinger’s defense attorney, Elizabeth Resendez, told KXAN that she and her client believe the charge “has no basis in reality.”…
