AUSTIN (KXAN) — An investigation is underway after multiple Spectrum fiber-optic lines were cut in an overnight “criminal attack” on the company’s fiber network infrastructure in north Austin, according to a Tuesday press release from Spectrum.
Spectrum said the cut lines are near the Wells Branch neighborhood, and residential and business customers reported temporary outages.
Crews were working to restore services, according to Spectrum. As of Wednesday evening, not all services have been restored for customers, Spectrum said.
“Criminal attacks on communications infrastructures are a growing issue affecting the entire telecommunications industry, not just Spectrum,” the telecommunications company said in a statement. “These acts are not only crimes, but they pose a risk to public safety by disrupting connectivity to homes, businesses and emergency services.”…
