Over 300 Texans brave storm to shop at H-E-B rival Aldi’s new shop

Hundreds of eager Central Texans braved thunderstorms and woke up before sunrise to shop at a new discount grocery store that could rival H-E-B. Aldi officially opened the doors to its latest Austin-area store on Thursday, April 2.

More than 300 Texans from near and far lined up outside the $1.75 million shop at 850 N. Bell Boulevard in Cedar Park, a suburb north of Austin. The first 200 shoppers scored free gift bags and gift cards, some worth up to $100, which was one of the main reasons why people decided to shop at Aldi as inflation continues to surge.

“Aldi is the low-cost leader in groceries in the United States,” Aldi Divisional Vice President for the Rosenberg division, Scott Huska, said during the store’s ribbon cutting ceremony. “We save the average family, 36% or about $4,000 a year.”…
