Austin’s restaurant churn rarely slows, and March was no exception.

From a Spanish cocktail bar in a converted bungalow to an oyster spot staking a claim in our landlocked city, new openings this month were specific. Meanwhile, other restaurants quietly closed or hit pause. Here’s what’s new, what’s gone and what’s in between.

Cafe Hornitos

A Facebook post cites the IH-35 expansion as the reason for the March 31 closure. The owners have hinted at a future location but have yet to announce details.

Texas Sake Co.

Temporarily closed in South Austin, with no clear timeline for reopening.

Openings

Austin Oyster Co.

After years as a pop-up, Austin Oyster Co. plants roots in a restored Craftsman home on East Cesar Chavez Street. The menu includes East Coast oysters, lobster rolls and seafood-driven small plates, alongside heartier dishes.

Boni’s
