AUSTIN (KXAN) — A west Austin family was surprised to find a pride of peafowl perched on their porch Friday.
The peacocks and peahens of Mayfield Park are well-known to some Austinites, but like many residents of the city, the group of birds spotted roaming Tarrytown are transplants.
On Friday, a resident reached out to KXAN from their home along Bowman Avenue to report peafowl in their yard. Another resident, who did not provide an exact location, submitted a video of three peafowl at their front door.

In the video, a woman asks another person if they “hired them to come and guard the house?” before laughing at the sight of the brightly colored birds lounging on her front porch.
A volunteer for the organization that helps maintain Mayfield Park‘s horticulture and helps take care of the resident peafowl said they are aware of four birds that were “dumped at Mayfield a couple of months back.”…
