Self driving car runs over Mueller Lake Park duck, raising safety concerns

AUSTIN (KXAN)– An autonomous vehicle operated by Avride is under review after a witness reported that one of the company’s self-driving vehicles struck and killed a duck near Mueller Lake Park earlier this week, raising concerns about the safety of nearby residents.

The incident was first shared in a post to a Mueller neighborhood Facebook group, where a witness said the vehicle did not slow down as it drove through the park area, then struck and killed a duck that had been nesting nearby.

“I saw an Avride self-driving car, with a person in the driver’s seat not touching the wheel, run over and kill a duck near the park,” the post read. “It didn’t slow down or hesitate at all, just steamrolled right through.”
