Katz’s Deli first opened in downtown Austin back in 1979 as a 24-hour haven (aka, a delicatessen and bar). The restaurant closed back in January 2011 after 32 years of operations amid ongoing financial troubles, landing business leaders in U.S. bankruptcy court. Over a decade later, in September 2024, Katz’s announced its triumphant return to its original location downtown, with the original owner’s son taking the helm.
