Katz’s Delicatessen plots $2.5M comeback at former downtown Austin site

After suffering a shutdown in 2011 in downtown Austin, the 24-hour Katz’s Delicatessen has been inching toward a return to its old stomping grounds in the capital, looking to revive the mantra that “Katz’s Never Kloses.”

Now, the family behind the New York-style eatery is rolling out an official comeback plan, a Friday filing with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation shows.

Records reveal the restaurant is slated to return to the building at West Sixth and Rio Grande streets where it opened in 1979 as a 24-hour eatery serving up sandwiches stacked with decadent deli meats…
