Austin Police update General Orders after city, Gov. Abbott reach agreement on ICE policy

AUSTIN, Texas — The Austin Police Department has released its updated General Orders, formalizing changes to how officers handle immigration-related matters following an agreement between the City of Austin and Texas Gov. Greg Abbott.

The changes come after Abbott threatened to pull $2.5 million in public safety grants earlier this month over the city’s approach to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) administrative warrants.
