Storms lead to influx of injured wildlife across Central Texas

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Raccoons, baby birds and deer flooded Central Texas wildlife shelters this week after days of intense weather swept through the area.

“We went from taking 30 to 40 animals a day in to taking in 50 to 60 animals a day,” said Jules Maron, Executive Director of Austin Wildlife Rescue.

Maron said many of the animals they’ve seen have been birds, knocked out of the air or trees by rain and powerful winds. She said many of the birds have broken legs and wings, injured by the long fall.
