Coroner identifies man who died days after being found unresponsive in house fire

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — The Kern County Coroner’s Office has identified a man who died days after being found unresponsive from a structure fire as 22-year-old Luis Fernando Ramirez-Ayala of Bakersfield.

The Bakersfield Fire Department said on May 19, 2026, at around 11:45 a.m., crews responded to the 200 block of S. Owens Street for a report of heavy fire in a home. Two people were initially reported inside the home.

When they arrived, they found one person with severe injuries. A second person was not found.

The coroner’s report said Ramirez-Ayala was found unresponsive inside a residence, which was the scene of a structure fire…
