BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — A major effort to expand affordable housing for seniors is underway in Bakersfield, where local leaders broke ground on a $27 million development on 4th Street.
The project, led by the Housing Authority and the Bakersfield Senior Center, will include 36 affordable apartments for seniors along with a new senior center. The center is expected to offer meals, wellness programs, educational classes, and other support services.
“I want them to see a place that is safe, a place that will provide services, a place that their mothers, fathers, aunts, uncles, cousins and families can come to and enjoy themselves,” said Lilli Parker, executive director of the Bakersfield Senior Center.
