BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — A series of deadly crashes in Kern County in recent weeks is putting road safety top of mind as local and regional safety experts urge drivers to stay focused, give themselves room to react and prepare for the unexpected.
On Aug. 16, three people were killed and three others were injured in a wrong-way crash on southbound Highway 99 near 7th Standard Road. The incident remains under investigation.
Less than two weeks later, three men died and four others were injured in a head-on crash on Copus Road west of Old River Road. CHP said a Nissan crossed into the westbound lane for reasons that remain under investigation.
On Sept. 3, one person died and another was hurt in a crash at Panama Road and Tejon Highway.
The circumstances surrounding each crash are different, but Anlleyn Venegas, a senior public affairs specialist with AAA, said drivers should remember that “most crashes are preventable.”…
