Kern County coroner ID’s elderly woman who died of accidental environmental exposure

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — The Kern County Coroner’s Office has identified an elderly woman who died of “environmental exposure.”

The coroner’s office determined that 74-year-old Karen Elizabeth Demarais, of Bakersfield, died of hyperthermia due to environmental exposure and ruled the death as accidental after conducting a postmortem examination.

The office’s determination comes weeks after Demarais was found on the 400 block of Windy Gap Court in Bakersfield, around 7:11 a.m. on Aug. 12 by the Kern County Fire Department.

Law enforcement said the date and time of the incident is unknown…
