Wasco man convicted of stabbing family member during argument: Kern County DA

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — A Kern County jury convicted a Wasco man of assault stemming from an argument and altercation with family members earlier this year.

Robert Ornelas was found guilty Wednesday of assault with a deadly weapon, battery with serious bodily injury and resisting a peace officer, the Kern County District Attorney’s Office said in a statement. He faces up to seven years in prison.

On Feb. 15, Wasco police officers were called for a report of a stabbing and altercation between family members at a home. Prosecutors said Ornelas was involved in an argument with a family member in the home’s kitchen when another family member tried to intervene.

Ornelas stabbed the intervening family member with a kitchen knife on a counter causing “significant internal injuries” which required surgery, prosecutors said in a statement…
