A Mendota mechanic and grandfather was arrested and detained by ICE agents in downtown Fresno on Monday while he was picking up auto parts, his family said. He has since been transferred to a detention facility in McFarland, an incident that is raising questions about ICE detainments in Kern County.
The man’s name has not been publicly released. His granddaughter, Jade Torres, said her grandfather has lived in Mendota for years and owned a mechanic shop. She said he was allegedly picking up auto parts for a car he was working on when ICE agents detained him and held him in downtown Fresno.
“They were saying that they might not even keep him here, that he might be transferred in California or not even in California at all, like maybe in Texas or [further] away,” Torres said…
