Kern County adopting California updated COVID-19 guidance: No isolation needed if you’re asymptomatic

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — Much has changed since the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic. Vaccines, mask mandates, and now, isolation recommendations continue to evolve.

California’s top public health official, Dr. Tomas Aragon, released a new health order updating infectious period definitions for isolation.

Kern County Public Health is aligning with the new order. People who test positive but have no symptoms, don’t have to isolate.

Testing negative but still feeling sick? Doctors explain why

“The isolation guidance — since it’s entirely based on symptoms — if you don’t have any symptoms, you meet the criteria to be released.” said Paul Rzucidlo, epidemiologist at Kern County Public Health.

You are not considered infectious after 24 hours have passed without a fever and without fever-reducing medication.

“The real common symptoms that we’ve had throughout the pandemic are the ones you’re going to see like cough, upper respiratory symptoms, runny nose, things like that,” said Rzucidlo.
