Kern community to pay tribute to Phillip Campas

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — The community is invited to pay tribute to a Kern County hero who was killed in the line of duty more than two years ago.

Kern County Sheriff’s Deputy Phillip Campas courageously gave his life in 2021 defending a family who was taken hostage.

Now the U.S. Marine Veteran’s legacy will be immortalized, with his image added to the Hall of Honor in the portrait of a warrior gallery.

During a ceremony Tuesday afternoon, on what would have been his birthday, the portrait will be unveiled.

The event is taking place at the Lady Liberty parking lot just across the gallery on Eye Street at 1 p.m.

A fundraiser in Campas’ honor will be held Tuesday night at Salty’s BBQ in southwest Bakersfield from 4 to 7 p.m. The proceeds will go to support youth leadership and the Phillip Campas Award Scholarships.
