Driver crashes into Bakersfield fire engine as they respond to a crash

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — Bakersfield city firefighters needed some help themselves as they responded to a rollover crash Wednesday along Highway 178.

Video from the scene showed a driver colliding into a Bakersfield Fire Department engine parked along the side of the roadway as firefighters were attempting to pull the first driver out of their vehicle.

Firefighters were called to the first crash just after 12:30 p.m., in eastbound lanes of Highway 178 near the Oswell Street onramp. A vehicle rolled over landing in a bushy embankment. One person needed to be pulled out of the vehicle and they were taken to a hospital for treatment.

While on the first call, a second vehicle crashed into the side of the fire engine. No firefighters were hurt but the driver of the second vehicle had minor injuries, according to the California Highway Patrol.
