2 ordered to trial in double homicide at Delano gas station

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — A Kern County judge on Thursday found sufficient evidence to order two people to stand trial in connection to the killing of two men last year at a Delano gas station, according to court records.

Bryan Heredia, 19, and Rito Castillo, 25 , face life terms in prison if convicted on charges including two counts of first-degree murder. They’re due back in court next month for a hearing at which a trial date is expected to be set.

Charges were dismissed against a third defendant, Saul Ochoa, records show.

It’s alleged an argument involving gang members led to the shooting.

On July 14, Jose Juarez, 28, of Delano, and Joshua Pena, 28 , of Bakersfield were killed at the Valero gas station on Girard Street. Surveillance footage captured the incident.

Heredia is the accused gunman, prosecutors say. He and others fled in a Dodge Ram, leading police on a high-speed chase that ended when a police vehicle rear-ended the pickup at Zachary and Woollomes Avenue, according to court documents.
