I met Olivia Trujillo while working for Kern County Supervisor David Couch a couple of years before the pandemic. She wanted to introduce herself and announce she was running for mayor of Arvin. My first impression was not so flattering. Here this small, diminutive grandmother with no political or financial support thought she was going to win against then-Mayor Jose Gurrola, who many thought had a great future in the Democratic party and in California politics.
