Home camera captures coyote attack, killing of cat in east Bakersfield neighborhood

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. ( KGET ) — Home security camera captured a pair of coyotes that hunted down and killed a cat in an East Bakersfield neighborhood at a home near Panorama Drive.

It happened Saturday about 3:30 am. Days later, the remnants of the cat are still on the lawn.

“Coyotes will be running up streets with cats in their mouths, but it’s usually like mangy, yucky-looking coyotes,” cat lover and nearby resident Julia Green said.

Green lives in a neighborhood off Panorama Drive. She didn’t see the video of the hunt on Nextdoor, but says it happens all the time.

“People see them in the middle of the night, or early, early morning often. So, I think it is kind of a big problem around here,” she said.

Green owns eleven cats, and even invested $5,000 to keep them safe. “Recently I have put up this fence around my home. I don’t know if it will do anything about the coyotes.”

Neighbor, Jeff French shared some advice.
