Inmate in ‘fair condition’ after attacked at KVSP

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — An inmate is in “fair condition” after allegedly being attacked by other inmates at Kern Valley State Prison Tuesday morning.

California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation told 17 News that the alleged attack happened around 7:45 a.m. at a yard at the prison, and staff acted by issuing a verbal order.

The verbal orders were allegedly ignored and staff used “less-than-lethal 40 mm direct impact rounds” to stop the attack, according to CDCR officials.

The inmate who was attacked was taken to an outside medical facility for treatment and he has returned to the prison in “fair condition.”

At the scene, three inmate-manufactured weapons were found and recovered. The inmates who were believed to have participated in the attack have been placed in restricted housing.
