Power outage left portions of downtown, central Bakersfield in the dark for several hours

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — A power outage left hundreds of homes and businesses without power for several hours on Wednesday afternoon.

Power was restored to most by 2:30 p.m. and PG&E’s outage map did not show any major outages in the area.

Lights, electronics — and likely their work computers — suddenly cut out for residents and customers at around 11:30 a.m. The areas affected were primarily in neighborhoods around 23rd and 24th streets, Chester Avenue, between D and Q streets.

A city spokesperson said power did go out at Bakersfield Fire Department’s Station 1 but had a generator backup and there were no reports of disruptions to service.
