Dump drop off: Caltrans, Kern County Public Works offers drop off locations for tires

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — If you have tires piling up at home, in your garage and you don’t know what to do with them, Caltrans and Kern County Public Works can help.

On Feb. 3 and Feb. 10, Caltrans and Kern County Public Works are offering free locations to drop off tires. The Shafter/Wasco, Taft and Bena landfills will be open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. to drop off those tires you just don’t need or what to do with.

You can cycle the Centennial Corridor before it opens to the public

Officials said tires must have rims removed, and according to state law you can only transport nine waste tires at a time. No earthmover or oversized tires will be accepted and commercial waste won’t be accepted.

The Shafter landfill is located at 17621 Scofield Ave. in Shafter. The Taft landfill is located at 13351 Elk Hills Road in Taft. The Bena landfill is located at 2951 Neumarkel Road in Bakersfield.
