Strong winds expected to hit Kern County, possibly lasting until Sunday

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — The storm system headed towards the Bakersfield area is expected to bring extreme wind gusts this weekend.

The 17 News weather team expects very strong winds late tonight into Sunday. A High Wind Warning has been issued for the Bakersfield area.

Winds gusts could reach 55 to 60 mph. With all the rain we have received the past few days, trees may become uprooted in the strong winds.

Heavy rains will follow the winds on Sunday. Valley areas can expect 1-1.50 inches of rain with mountain areas picking up near 2 inches.
