BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) – On Saturday, we can expect dry weather before the next system rolls in later at night. This upcoming atmospheric river system appears to be quite promising, as it is expected to bring a substantial amount of precipitation and strong winds. Initially, the snow levels will start at around 5000 feet, but they will rapidly escalate to 6500-7000 feet by Sunday afternoon. However, they will then drop back down to 5000-6000 feet on Monday. It’s worth mentioning that a Winter Storm Watch has been issued for the Sierra region, specifically for areas above 5000 feet, and this watch will be in effect from Saturday evening until late Monday night. During this time, we could potentially see snow accumulations ranging from 1 to 4 feet between 5000 and 7000 feet, with the possibility of up to 6 feet above 7000 feet. Similarly, the Kern County mountains above 6000 feet are also under a Winter Storm Watch, and snow accumulations of 6 to 24 inches are expected there. Additionally, on Sunday, strong southerly wind gusts near 75 mph are anticipated in the Pine Mountain Club area. It’s important to note that rain is in the forecast all the way through Thursday of next week.
