North HS becomes Bakersfield’s first Blue Zones Approved high school

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — North High School has become Bakersfield’s first high school that is Blue Zones Project Approved.

According to the Blue Zones Bakersfield Project, North High School becoming a Blue Zones Project Approved School is an “incredible accomplishment” and a “testament to this school’s commitment to creating a healthier and happier school environment.”

In November 2023, McKinley Elementary School became Bakersfield’s first school ever to earn the Blue Zones Project Approved designation.

KGET previously reported McKinley Elementary School has a large school garden and hosts Walking School Bus events, according to officials.

According to officials, Blue Zones Project Bakersfield is a wellbeing initiative led by city and local health officials to enable the community to live longer and happier lives.
