Hook and Ladder BBQ helps Kern County burn victims

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — With the Hook and Ladder barbecue happening today, it’s important to remember what exactly you’re contributing to when you purchase a meal.

When a delicious meal is served up for only $10, sometimes it’s easy to forget the real meaning behind why these funds are being raised. The Hook and Ladder barbecue supports the Bakersfield City and Kern County Burn Survivors foundations, aiding burn survivors like Landon Foster.

Annual Hook and Ladder BBQ to be held Feb. 9 at Compassion Corner

“I was playing with the candle, took rubbing alcohol, which, 98% rubbing alcohol which is very hot– and squirted it on the candle, and the fire retracted from the candle and it made the bottle of rubbing alcohol explode in my face…like a movie explosion,” Foster said.

Since the incident, Landon has been able to receive treatments from our local burn center. Many people across the Nation have to travel to receive treatment from a burn center.

For Kern residents, we have Grossman’s burn center right in our backyard. There’s necessary steps taken outside of physical treatments, too. Like, group therapy.
