Woman struck, killed by vehicle on SB Hwy 99

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — A Bakersfield woman was struck and killed by vehicle on southbound Highway 99, south of Olive Drive early Tuesday morning, according to California Highway Patrol.

Officials said the woman was hit by a vehicle traveling southbound on Highway 99, just south of Olive Drive, in the number four lane, around 67 miles per hour when the pedestrian walked directly into the path of the vehicle.

The 53-year-old driver couldn’t avoid hitting the pedestrian and the front of the vehicle struck the pedestrian in the number four lane. She was pronounced dead at the scene, CHP said.

The driver of the vehicle stopped and remained on scene waited for officials to arrive.

The crash remains under investigation.
