Nearly 800 boxes of Dewar’s chews sold during Mendiburu Magic Foundation’s Cupid Challenge

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — Valentine’s Day was not just a day to celebrate romance but also a time to help sick kids and their families.

From sunrise to sundown yesterday, people stopped by Dewar’s in downtown Bakersfield and picked up a box of their famous chews for $21. Close to 800 boxes of chews were sold during the Mendiburu Magic Foundation’s Cupid Challenge event.

Overnight drizzle to clear out, partly cloudy skies expected in Kern’s forecast

Proceeds will benefit the foundation and its mission of helping pediatric patients in Kern County.

“We help families with children that are receiving treatment outside of the county for any type of catastrophic or life-threatening illness so we’re doing gas cards, lodging, small medical expenses, anything that can help offset that cost the family has to travel out of the county,” Valeri Mendiburu, with the Mendiburu Magic Foundation, said.

If you didn’t have a chance to pick up a box, no worries. Valley Strong branches are still selling boxes of chews at all 11 of its branches. You can also make a donation online at MendiburuMagic.org.
