Mayor Karen Goh clears council chamber during meeting amid calls for cease-fire in Gaza

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — Bakersfield Mayor Karen Goh called for the council chamber to be cleared at Wednesday night’s city council meeting after pro-Palestinian activists called for a cease-fire resolution.

Following public comments demanding the council approve a cease-fire in the Gaza Strip, the group began chanting, “Cease-fire now!” Mayor Goh then called for officers to “clear the chambers,” and the group was forced to leave.

The council meeting then went into a brief recess before continuing.

The protest comes amid the Israel-Hamas war, which began more than two months ago following the surprise attack on Oct. 7.

The conflict has caused pain for both Jewish and Palestinian groups in Kern County , as many protesters across the country call for a cease-fire.
