Kern County grapples with six deadly crashes in one week, including hit-and-run incidents

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) – It’s been a deadly week on Kern County roads after at least six deadly crashes have been reported in the area. The most recent crash happened late Tuesday night in the Kern River Valley. Around 10:16 p.m., California Highway Patrol said they received a report of a two-vehicle crash in the area of Highway 155 near Sawmill Road, south of Wofford Heights. The driver of a Toyota Prius was going west on Highway 155 when he reportedly crossed over the double yellow lines and crashed into the driver of a Chevrolet that was heading in the opposite direction. The 44-year-old Bakersfield woman who was behind the wheel of the Prius died at the scene. The driver of the Chevy, a 34-year-old Bakersfield woman, was airlifted to Kern Medical with severe injuries.
