Shots Fired During Barricaded Suspect Standoff With Deputies in Bakersfield

BAKERSFIELD, Calif., June 28 (KNN) — A tense standoff unfolded in Kern County around 5:18 p.m. after deputies responded to the 1900 block of East Planz Road to serve a felony warrant for an adult male suspect late Thursday afternoon.

Two subjects, an adult male and adult female, were seen at the residence and deputies attempted to contact them but were unsuccessful, according to the Kern County Sheriff’s Office.

Chaos erupted as the male suspect opened fire within the residence reportedly at the deputies’ drone when it flew inside the building, according to initial information at the scene.

Deputies established a perimeter while evacuating neighboring residences. SWAT was called to respond to the scene for reports of a barricaded suspect and possible hostage, reported the KCSO.

The SWAT team quickly surrounded the area, initiating a dramatic standoff.

About two hours into the standoff, a woman who had been inside the residence managed to escape, running to safety. It is unknown if she was being held inside the residence.
