Riddhi Patel hearing moved to September

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — A preliminary hearing for Riddhi Patel — the protester who told the Bakersfield City Council, “We’ll see you at your house, we’ll murder you” — was postponed Monday to Sept. 23, court officials said.

Patel, 28, is charged with 21 felony counts and remains free on $500,000 bail.

Patel was criticizing security measures at an April 10 city council meeting — claiming the measures were retaliation against protesters who demanded the council pass a resolution for a ceasefire in Gaza — when she made the statement during public comment. She was arrested immediately afterward.

Following her arrest, Patel was fired from her job with an environmental advocacy group. As part of her bail conditions, she was ordered to turn in her passport, remain in the state and be placed on GPS monitoring.
