Two Passengers In Fatal 5 Freeway Crash Identified As Bakersfield Men

The two passengers that died in a 5 Freeway crash Monday that sent their vehicle 50 feet off the roadway have been identified.

On Wednesday, Isaac Maestas, 22 and Jordan Phillips 23, both from Bakersfield were identified as the two passengers that died in the solo-vehicle crash, according to officials with the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office.

Ceyontay Bell, 24, of Bakersfield, was identified as the driver that died Monday afternoon when a vehicle went off the 5 Freeway north of Castaic .

At about 4:29 p.m. Monday,  the California Highway Patrol (CHP) in Newhall was notified of a traffic crash with injuries on the southbound 5 Freeway just south of Templin Highway, several miles north of Castaic, according to Officer Josh Greengard, spokesperson of the Newhall CHP Area Office.

There, emergency responders discovered a 2001 Toyota Avalon with four occupants.

Preliminary investigation indicates that Bell was driving on the  I-5 south toward Templin Highway at a high rate of speed, per witnesses at the scene.
