Bakersfield remembers Veteran Bruce Clement Murray

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — The City of Bakersfield lost decorated Veteran Bruce Murray earlier in August.

Bruce Murray passed away peacefully at his home in Bakersfield on Aug. 2, he was 91-years-old. Murray was born in Berkeley and worked in the U.S. Forest Service before enlisting with the Army at the start of the Korean War.

During the war, Murray served as a paratrooper, earning the Silver Star and the Purple Heart.

Murray eventually became a prisoner of war and after his camp was liberated, he volunteered with orphaned children in Japan while he recuperated.

Murray continued to serve his country as an officer in the New York Police Department, and then moved to Bakersfield in 1979 when he started his own welding business.

Murray is remembered as a man who loved to laugh, drink and tell a good story.

Murray is survived by his devoted wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
