Attempted murder charges filed in assault of pregnant woman

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — Three people — including the alleged victim’s mother-in-law — have been charged with attempted murder in an assault on a pregnant woman in Boron, according to court filings.

The woman told sheriff’s investigators she was choked, kicked in the face and punched and kicked in the ribs and stomach.

She said one of the assailants tried to grab the fetus through her stomach. She was 32 weeks pregnant.

It’s unclear from the documents if the fetus was harmed. The reports are heavily redacted so it’s also unclear at times which defendant did what.

Esther Ramirez, Linette Alcantarra and Guillermo Corona-Huizar are charged with attempted murder, child cruelty, assault, false imprisonment with violence and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

The last charge relates to a teen boy who authorities say also participated in the incident.

Alcantarra has pleaded not guilty and has a court hearing scheduled this week. The other two are not listed in custody.
